THE READER’S DIGEST 79TH NATIONAL SWEEPSTAKES
OFFICIAL RULES

  1. SPONSOR

    The Reader’s Digest 79th National Sweepstakes offers a series of prizes and is presented in conjunction with various product offers sponsored by The Reader’s Digest Association (Canada) ULC (RD) and occasionally by its affiliates and partners.

  2. ELIGIBILITY

    1. This Sweepstakes is open, upon invitation, to Canadian residents who, at the time of entry, have reached the age of majority according to the law of the province or territory in which they reside. A person employed by RD or its sponsors, representatives and the persons with whom they are domiciled may not enter the Sweepstakes. Entries are not transferable except to the winner’s estate according to the law of the province or territory of their residence.

    2. Entrants are eligible to win among all the prizes presented in this Sweepstakes, providing reply conditions set forth in the various offers are met.


  3. HOW TO ENTER

    1. NO PURCHASE OR ENTRY FEES ARE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN.

    2. Each promotion has its own reply deadline date, these dates must be respected in order to be eligible to win any of the Sweepstakes’ prizes. During the complete Sweepstakes period, an individual may enter as many times as given the opportunity and each entry gives each participant a chance to win among all prizes offered in the Sweepstakes. Each entry has a fair and equal chance to win.

    3. Participants must return, by mail, the official entry document or, when applicable, must activate the digital entry in accordance with instructions and entry deadlines stated in the relevant promotional materials.

    4. For all entries, the date of receipt by RD, by mail or electronically (if applicable) will determine entry eligibility to the Sweepstakes.

    5. Reproduction of entries will not be accepted.


  4. PRIZES AND IMPORTANT DATES

    This Sweepstakes offers a series of prizes. Visual presentation, treatment, and payment options of prizes may vary in the promotional materialsThe prizes listed below may be offered by RD in the following options: cash (as a lump sum or as a weekly, monthly or annual annuity), cars, gas allowances, trips, celebration parties, jewelry, travel packages, home improvements, electronics or shopping sprees.  Despite the different options offered for each prize, and even though a person receives many different promotions offering the same prizes in different forms, there will be only one winner for each of the prizes (except for the Multi-Prize Draw where 50 winners will be drawn).  Each prize and bonus (if offered) will be awarded in accordance with the specific promotional document of each winning entry.  When merchandise prizes are offered, RD reserves the right to substitute similar merchandise of equal or greater value (with the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (Régie)) in the event that a particular merchandise prize is no longer available.  Winners always have the option of choosing cash over the merchandise prize.

    1. The final close date for the prizes and the bonus listed below is August 23, 2023 at 23:59:59 (EDT) and the draw for each of the prizes will take place in Montreal, on September 26, 2023 at 11:00:00 (EDT).

    2. One (1) Grand Prize of $50,000 will be awarded.

      One (1) Winner’s Bonus ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 will be offered from time to time. This bonus will be awarded only to the winner of the Grand Prize, if eligible.

      One (1) Gold Star Award of $10,000.00 will be awarded.

      One (1) Prestige Prize of $5,000 will be awarded.

      Fifty (50) Multi-Prizes of $50 each will be awarded.


  5. SELECTION OF WINNERS

    1. Each workday during this Sweepstakes period, an RD representative, will select 6 to 10 entries, at random among all entries received on that day for mailed in entries as well as, when applicable, 6 to 10 digital entries per day for digital entries. Number of entries selected on each workday will depend on the number of entries received that day. These entries will be captured in a database until the final draw day.

    2. On the final draw day, a random electronic draw will be performed among all entries from the daily draws, under the supervision of an independent representative and in the presence of a witness. The order in which the winner for each prize will be drawn will be as follows:
      •  First entry drawn: Grand Prize (verification as to whether this winner is eligible to the Winner’s Bonus will be determined based on the specific terms and conditions set forth in the promotion material of the entry drawn).
      •  Second entry drawn: Gold Star Award
      •  Third entry drawn: Prestige Prize
      •  Next fifty (50) entries drawn: Multi-Prize draw


  6. PROBABILITY OF WINNING

    Based on past Sweepstakes, future offers planned and as determined by statistical data, an individual’s average probability of winning the Grand Prize is: 1 in 481,698; the Gold Star Award is: 1 in 481,698; the Prestige Prize is: 1 in 481,698; and any of the Multi-Prizes: 1 in 9,634.

    Probability for the Grand Prize winner to win the Winner’s Bonus is 2 out of 3.

  7. QUALIFYING WINNER(S) NOTIFICATION

    All qualifying winners will be notified in writing within 72 hours of the draw date and must return, by mail, their correct answer to a skill-testing question involving general knowledge in order to receive their prize. They must allow the use of their name, city of residence, and statements (audio or video) and photographs for promotional purposes. All prizes will be delivered to the winners’ home. If a winner fails to respond by the date specified in the notification, the prize may be given to an alternate winner or to a recognized Canadian charity organization. Winners’ information may be publicized in magazines published by Reader’s Digest Magazines (Canada) Limited, or through any other media chosen by RD.
  8. WAIVER

    For all entries, RD, its directors, its employees, any company involved in the administration of this Sweepstakes, and the appointed representative are not responsible for misdirected, lost, late, damaged, incomplete and/or illegible entries and incorrect transcription of entry information, as well as any technical malfunctions and failure of any network which may limit an individual’s participation.

  9. GOVERNING CONDITIONS

    1. The Reader’s Digest National Sweepstakes complies with all Canadian laws.  In Quebec, the required duties have been paid.  Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling.  Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.  Answers to questions concerning the Sweepstakes can be obtained online at www.rd.ca or by writing to: The Reader’s Digest Prize Award Office, PO box 963 Stn Main, Markham, Ontario  L3P 0J4.  To request a printed list of winners, please write to the address above and enclose a self-addressed, pre-stamped business size envelope.
